Join us with for an all-star celebration of the music of Count Basie! Joe Holt has assembled an amazing band from some of the most popular Mainstay Monday guests of 2018. Featuring Scott Silbert on Saxophones, Amy Shook on bass, Steve Herberman on guitar, Frank Russo on drums, and Joe himself at the keyboard, the band is guaranteed to be swinging!
Joe Holt has been a full-time performing musician for over 40 years. Joe performs for the connections that music makes, and a shared experience with his audiences. Known for his imaginative improvisations and a joy of performing, in addition to being a sensitive accompanist and collaborator, Joe’s formal studies span both jazz and classical, and the influence of both worlds can be heard. Soulful, contemplative, whimsical and hard swinging, his solo performances evoke the spirit of classic jazz pianists such as Dave McKenna, Fats Waller, Oscar Peterson and Bill Evans, with a touch of Victor Borge. Joe is a regular sideman with regional jazz groups and accompanist/musical director for several vocalists and singer/songwriters, in addition to his solo concerts and other collaborative performances. Joe appears on over 30 album recordings. He lives on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, and is the faculty instructor for the jazz combo at Washington College in Chestertown.
Scott A Silbert is the chief arranger for the United Stated Navy Band. He has composed/ arranged more than 300 works for the band, while actively performing, teaching, and conducting clinics. Scott has studied with jazz legends such as Phil Woods, Manny Albam, and Jerry Kalber. He performs with the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra and has appeared with Rosemary Clooney, Bob Hope, Stanley Turrentine, Andy Williams and The Temptations. Scott lectures frequently, having recently presented jazz history clinics at the Navy Band’s International Saxophone Symposium at George Mason University.
Steve Herberman is a graduate of Berklee College Of Music later adopting the seven-string guitar in 1993. He has recorded numerous CD’s as both leader and sideman and is a respected jazz educator. Steve Herberman’s original composition “What We Do” won first place in the jazz category of the 2018 USA Songwriting Competition. Steve has nearly 50 video lessons published on Mike’s Masterclasses and has toured across the US and Europe playing and teaching. He is featured in the book The Great Jazz Guitarists by Scott Yanow. Steve is an endorser of Comins Guitars and GLB Sound amps and is based in the Washington DC area.
Since moving to the east coast in 2003, Amy Shook has become one of the most in-demand upright bassists in the Baltimore/Washington, D.C. area, coveted for her huge sound and infectious, driving groove. She is an incredibly versatile musician who enjoys playing jazz standards as well as new music by her local colleagues. She is also an accomplished composer, and her personality truly comes through in her writing. Amy co-leads her own quartet with drummer Frank Russo, and her husband, Pat.
Frank Russo joyfully paints colorful soundscapes with his highly skilled, passionate, musical drumming. He’s an in demand performer, recording artist and educator who currently resides in Maryland and teaches at Towson University. He is also an artist/educator for Bosphorus Cymbals, MD Drums and The Vic Firth Education Team. Raised in the NYC area, Frank was steeped in the rich musical heritage of the jazz legends at an early age and carriers on the legacy of a musical family. Frank is also a member of the Bob Butta Trio, The Fred Hughes Band, Rob Levit Trio, Uptown Vocal Jazz Quartet, Bob Boguslaw’s The Way, Mozart to Motown with Stefan Scaggiari, PF Flyer and The Shook Russo Quartet.
