EASTON, MD – The Academy Art Museum in Easton recently received a $25,000 grant from the Mid-Shore Community Foundation’s Artistic Insights Fund to help cover the costs associated with its ArtReach Program. ArtReach is the heart and soul of the Museum’s youth programs, and for many children on the Mid Shore, it represents their only chance to visit an art museum. The Program began over 28 years ago and last year served 3055 students, teachers, and parents in 22 schools and non-profit organizations in the Museum’s five-county service area: Talbot, Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, and Queen Anne’s counties.
ArtReach has experienced exponential growth in the last seven years. Its subsidiary Museums in the Museum! Program is going into its fifth year. Two years ago, the Museum launched a new ArtReach endeavor – Have Art, Will Travel – that brings works from its permanent collection into schools. Five hundred and six students and teachers took part last year. The Museum also brought an expanded environmental/visual arts program called Junk Mail Fish to St Michaels Elementary School last year. Several collaborative programs with area schools and organizations are planned for 2018/19. These programs are designed to allow the Museum to have an active presence in schools in between exhibitions and during times when field trips are impractical due to academic schedules.
