Dewey Beach, DE. – The mythical bird, the Phoenix, was identified in many cultures including Greek, Egyptian, Judaism, and Christianity. The Phoenix was reincarnated and rose with a brilliant shine. This example can be compared with experiences that children, teens, firefighters and wounded warriors experience following their devastating, disfiguring and potentially disabling encounter with severe burns, yet rebound from their positive experiences at a special camp.

Brian and Allison Carlisle, through their non-profit organization Joining Force, bring the Inaugural Flight of the Phoenix fund raising event to our area. “My profession has taken me around the country to facilities that help patients with physical disabilities. I have been so moved by Allison Massarri, the founder of the Roger Pepper Adventure Camp for Teenage Burn Survivors that my wife and I are dedicating our time and efforts to help the camp assist burned children and others and to reach our goal of $25,000, says Brian Carlisle.” “I know the citizens and visitors in the Sussex area and the state of Delaware have a strong sense of giving back. That’s why we selected Dewey Beach for our inaugural event.”

The Adaptive Sports Center located in Crested Butte, CO enhances the quality of life for people with disabilities through exceptional outdoor adventure activities. One activity is The Roger Pepper Adventure Camp for Teenage Burn Survivors. There are survivors from the local region who have attended the facility. The camp will be the recipient of the proceeds raised at the Inaugural Flight of the Phoenix 5K run and walk on April 27th. Attendees will also learn more about fire prevention, precaution, and protection.

Gary’s Dewey Beach Grill and 38̊-75̊ Brewing located at 2000 Delaware 1, Dewey Beach, DE 19971, are hosting the events. The 5K run and 1 Mile Non-Competitive Walk will be Saturday April 27th.
