ST MICHAELS, MD – Enjoy an up close and personal experience on the Miles River in St. Michaels, Md. this Memorial Day weekend, when the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum’s small craft rental program launches May 24-May 27, 2019.

CBMM’s small craft rental program continues Fridays through Sundays, May 31 through October 27, with sailing vessels, kayaks, and rowboats launching from CBMM’s floating docks. Daily and hourly rates vary by type of vessel, with discounts for CBMM members and for Friday rentals.

The fleet of small craft are perfect for singles, couples, or families, and includes a 13’ lighthouse skiff; two 15’ bay skiffs; a 16’ Delaware Ducker; a 16’ Chesapeake stick-up; an 18’ two-masted crabbing skiff; and a selection of wooden and plastic kayaks. More details about the fleet can be found at cbmm.org/smallcraftrentals.

Rentals will be closed during CBMM festivals, which are listed at cbmm.org. Hourly and daily rental reservations can be made from 10:00 – 4:00pm, with all boats returning to CBMM’s docks no later than 5:00pm. Private or group sailing and paddling lessons are also available.

Sailing vessel rental rates are $25 per hour, or $130 per day, with kayak and rowboat rentals at $20 per hour, or $100 per day, with a 20% discount for CBMM members on all rentals. On Fridays, participants can enjoy two hours on the water for the price of one. Participation is limited by the number of boats available, with advanced reservations encouraged, and drop-ins welcomed.

“You can take one of our boats out for as little as one hour to an entire day,” said CBMM Shipyard Program Manager Jennifer Kuhn. “For our guests it’s a unique chance to play around on the Miles River in a handcrafted wooden vessel.”

Boat renters must be 16 years of age or older, with minors accompanied by an adult, unless a boater safety certificate is presented. All participants must be physically able to get in and out of a small boat without assistance, with life jackets provided. For advanced reservations or to inquire about private or group sailing and paddling lessons, contact CBMM Shipyard Program Manager Jennifer Kuhn at jkuhn@cbmm.org or 410-745-4980.
