ST MICHAELS, MD – This summer, the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum will host two guided paddle and tasting programs on local waterways that are good for both beginner and intermediate paddlers.

The first program, scheduled for 8:30am–1pm Saturday, July 6, 2019 invites the public to join CBMM Shipyard Programs Manager Jenn Kuhn for a kayak paddle along San Domingo Creek and around Hambleton Island, stopping along the way for a snack and swim on the banks of the island. Once back on land, the group is invited to a wine tasting at the Great Shoals Cellars.

Participants in this paddle will launch from Back Creek Park on West Chew Street in St. Michaels, Md.

The second offering will be held from 9am–1pm Saturday, Aug. 24, 2019 and invites participants to paddle along the Tred Avon River to watch the Chesapeake Bay’s iconic sailing log canoe races and stop along the way to cool off with some ice cream from Scottish Highland Creamery.

Participants in this paddle will launch from Bellevue Landing, near the Oxford-Bellevue Ferry in Oxford, Md.

Participants in both programs should dress accordingly, wear sunscreen, and bring water and any snacks they may need. The cost for each individual paddle, which includes the price of the tastings, is $35 for those bringing their own kayak and gear or $65 for those renting it from CBMM. A 20% discount is offered for CBMM members, with advanced registration required for each to cbmm.org/paddles. These programs are weather dependent; participants will be notified in case of cancelation.

CBMM’s Apprentice for a Day Shipyard Programs take place year-round, offering demonstrations, workshops, intensives with visiting master craftsmen, on-the-water experiences, and customized programming. Programs take place on weekends and select weekdays, and include a variety of programs for every interest and age. To find one that’s right for you, visit cbmm.org/shipyardprograms.
