ST MICHAELS, MD -This summer and fall, the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum is hosting two full moon paddles designed to allow paddlers to view unique Full Buck and Harvest moons from the water. These paddles will take place in July and August.

Native American tribes gave moons names as a way of tracking the seasons. During July, a buck’s antlers are in full growth, making the July full moon the Full Buck moon. The Full Buck Moon paddle will launch from CBMM’s campus on Fogg’s Cove at 5:30pm on Tuesday, July 16. Paddlers will continue along the Miles River and up Long Haul Creek to view the Full Buck Moon.

In September, the time of the harvest, the full moon was known as a Harvest Moon. This paddle will launch from Claiborne Landing Boat Launch at 5:30pm on Saturday, Sept. 14 and move down Eastern Bay to gaze at the Harvest Moon.

Paddlers of all levels are invited to join these stunning evening paddles, and may rent kayaks from CBMM or bring their own. Participants should dress accordingly to the weather, and bring water and a head lamp.

The cost for participants renting a kayak from CBMM is $35 per evening paddle. For participants bringing their own kayak, the cost is $20. There is a 20% discount available for CBMM members. Registration is required to cbmm.org/paddles.
