ST MICHAELS, MD – AJ Meerwald, the official Tall Ship of New Jersey, will spend a week at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Md., from October 8–15, 2019. The restored 1928 oyster schooner will then return to CBMM the following week from October 21–23. Dockside tours, which are included with CBMM’s regular two-day admission, will be available from 9am–noon on Oct. 12, 13, and 14, and from 3–5pm on Oct. 21.
AJ Meerwald’s crew will also offer a number of two-hour sails aboard the schooner during its first visit to CBMM. Sails are scheduled for 4:30pm on Oct. 11, and at both 1pm and 4:30pm on Oct. 12, 13, and 14. Tickets for the public sails, which include admission to CBMM, are $42 for adults (ages 17–64), $32 for seniors (ages 65 and up), and $22 for children (ages 16 and under). While docked at CBMM, AJ Meerwald will run also joint education programming with CBMM’s education staff. AJ Meerwald is operated as a hands-on sailing classroom by the Bayshore Center at Bivalve, a non-profit organization whose mission is to advance the understanding of the human impact on New Jersey’s aquatic environment through education, advocacy, and programming. BCB also operates the Delaware Bay Museum and offers shore-based programs at its campus and schooner’s home port of Bivalve on the scenic Maurice River in Cumberland County.
