CHESTERTOWN, MD — In a news release The Garfield Center for the Arts announced they have accepted the resignation of Tess Jones as executive director. The resignation was effective August 29, 2019.

The Garfield center says that scheduled Garfield Center productions and events will go on as planned, including the annual Chestertown Jazz Festival in Wilmer Park this weekend Saturday, September 14, 2019.

At this time, all theatre inquiries should be directed to Nic Carter, theatre manager, at ncarter@garfieldcenter.org or Meghan Ferster, director of development, at mferster@garfieldcenter.org, the release states.

“We continue to strive to accomplish our mission to invigorate the cultural life of our community by nurturing, celebrating and supporting arts and artists through performance and education,” the board of directors said in the release. “We look forward to seeing you at the Garfield!”

What is the future of The Annual HP Festival?

The HP Festival Facebook page posted on Sunday, September 8th 2019 the following: “We regret to announce that The Chestertown HP festival as we know it has been canceled for this fall. We hope to be back in 2020 better than ever! The local theatre may try to hold a modified event this year however this is not associated with the Chestertown HP festival so we cannot speak to what that would look like.”

A little later on the same evening the Garfield Center posted: “A group of volunteers led by the Garfield Center for the Arts is working to create a fun wizarding weekend for October 4 and 5, 2019 as they look forward to the return of the full HP Fest in 2020. Other nonprofits collaborating with GCA on the weekend activities include Main Street Chestertown, Chestertown RiverArts, Kent School, Inc. and more to be announced.”

The Festival Page posted this morning, September 9, 2019: “Please like Garfield Center for the Arts to stay up to date with news about the Wizarding Weekend in Chestertown on October 4th & 5th ⚡️”
