Halloween Parade & Trick or Treat on Newarks’s Main Street

New Castle

Newark, DE – Continuing a Newark tradition seven decades strong, the annual Newark Halloween Parade will be taking place on Main Street on Sunday, October 27, 2019 beginning at 3 p.m. Trick-or-Treat Main Street will be back again this year following the parade until 5 p.m.
We are anticipating that more than 50 groups will register for the parade this year, which will feature several local marching bands, vehicles from the Brandywine Region Antique Auto Club and Newark’s hometown fire company, AETNA Hose, Hook and Ladder. The parade will begin at Tyre Avenue at 3 p.m. and continue down Main Street to South College Avenue.

Groups interested in participating in the parade should contact the City of Newark Parks and Recreation Department at (302) 366-7000 for an application. Costumed individuals or families wanting to participate may do so by checking in with Parks and Recreation staff at George Read Park (across from Newark High School) by 2:30 p.m. the day of the parade.

Please note:
Spectators of the parade are asked to remain on the sidewalk and off the street at all times while the parade is taking place and follow all directions or requests from Newark Police and event volunteers throughout the event.

Parade participants are not permitted to hand out or throw candy during the parade, so please encourage your youngsters to participate in Trick or Treat Main Street to collect goodies from local businesses and parade participants after the parade.

Following the Halloween Parade, children are invited to enjoy goodies and activities while safely walking from business to business during Trick-or-Treat Main Street. The street will be closed to vehicular traffic and businesses will be open for shopping and trick-or-treating. Several parade participants will also be handing out goodies during Trick or Treat Main Street.

Downtown visitors are also invited to the Academy Building Lawn, where there will be a decorated area perfect for taking photos of your little goblin or princess.
