City of Newark to host 47th Annual Turkey Trot 5K & 10K Run & Walk

New Castle Running

Delaware’s second oldest, consecutively-run race will celebrate its 47th year when participants arrive at the starting point for Newark’s annual Turkey Trot 5K and 10K run/walk on Saturday, November 23rd 2019 at Handloff Park. The race, which benefits the James F. Hall Scholarship Fund, helps raise money to provide tuition assistance to youth who would otherwise be unable to participate in activities and programs through Newark Parks and Recreation Department.

There will be men’s and women’s divisions in five-year increments for each run, which take place on a USATF certified course with rolling hills through residential areas. The first 800 registrants will receive a long-sleeved T-shirt and prizes will be awarded to overall winners, as well as winners in age group categories for each run. Overall 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards will also be given for the 5K Walk.

Fees for the race are as follows:

– 10K: $25 pre-registration (until 11/20 at Noon), $30 day of event
– 5K: $25 pre-registration (until 11/20 at Noon), $30 day of event
– 10K & 5K: $30 pre-registration (until 11/20 at Noon), $35 day of event

Once again this year, the Ancient Order of Hibernians will be collecting coats that will be distributed to people in need throughout the area. Anyone interested in making a donation may bring coats in good condition the morning of the race.

This is a rain or shine event. Generous donors from local businesses provide a great variety for giveaways at the event.

Online registration is available at www.races2run.com or at the Newark Parks & Recreation Department (220 South Main Street, Newark, DE 19711). For additional information, please call the Newark Parks and Recreation Department at 302-366-7000 or visit www.newarkde.gov/play.
