Easton MD – The competition artists for the 16th Annual Plein Air Easton Competition & Arts Festival have been announced. All 58 have accepted and planning for their arrival has begun in earnest.

Plein Air Easton is organized as a juried completion in order to allow any artist the opportunity to compete and to potentially win the Grand Prize based on the merit of their work. This system has launched numerous fine art careers by bringing lesser-known but deserving artists’ work to the attention of collectors and other plein air event organizers.

More than 230 artists applied from across the US, Canada, Europe and Australia. Twenty-four of the 58 artists selected are brand new to the competition. “Our 16th year will be exciting, no doubt about it,” says PAE coordinator Marie Nuthall. This year’s group of artists hail from 21 states and two countries; listed below are those selected for inclusion in the event to be held July 12-19, 2020.

Plein Air Easton is judged annually by some of the most knowledgeable and informed experts in the world of representational art. This year’s entry juror, who selected the 2020 competitors, was Julia Marciari-Alexander, Executive Director and CEO of the Walters Art Museum. She has selected a group of artists whose collective body of work is unique, and which will surely appeal to a broad scope of fine art collectors and enthusiasts alike.

The Academy Art Museum and the Armory/Waterfowl Headquarters will be the display venues for the competition exhibit. This event is supported by the Maryland State Arts Council, Talbot County Arts Council, and donations from corporations, small businesses, media outlets, Friends of Plein Air Easton, sponsorships and strong community involvement.
