Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum to close in response to Coronavirus

After carefully reviewing the actions announced by the governor of Maryland and in the best interest of our guests, employees, and volunteers, the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum (CBMM) will temporarily close to the public on a 24-hour basis in response to Coronavirus (COVID-19) beginning Saturday, March 14, 2020. CBMM anticipates reopening April 1, 2020 subject to further evaluation. CBMM will also postpone the 9th Eastern Shore Sea Glass and Coastal Arts Festival, originally scheduled for Saturday, April 4 and Sunday, April 5, due to an executive order announced by the state prohibiting gatherings of more than 250 people.

“This is a public health decision, for our staff, volunteers, guests, and surrounding community,” said Kristen Greenaway, CBMM president. “Taking these preemptive measures will help prevent the spread of a virus which has been declared a global pandemic.”

As per the State of Maryland’s executive order, the 9th Eastern Shore Sea Glass and Coastal Arts Festival will be rescheduled once Maryland declares an end to the state of emergency and has proclaimed that COVID-19 does not present a catastrophic threat.

CBMM will also postpone the following public events originally scheduled within the March 14–31 timeframe:

– Open Boatshop
– Chart Navigation
– Delaware Restoration AFAD Days

Rescheduled dates are yet to be determined. Those who have purchased admission in advance can contact Laurel Seeman at lseeman@cbmm.org for a refund.

CBMM will continue monitoring COVID-19 very closely and will provide ongoing communication as the situation unfolds. A banner at the top of CBMM.org labeled “Please click here for a COVID-19 update from CBMM” will provide the quickest access to updates. The Maryland Department of Health is providing state-wide updates as the situation develops.
