QACAC Scholarship WinnersCentreville, MD – The Queen Anne’s County Arts Council has awarded scholarships to four very talented Queen Anne’s County students going on to study the arts in college. The board and staff of the Centre for the Arts are so appreciative to all that applied and to all who gave to the Arts Council throughout the year to make these scholarships possible. Of course, none of this would be possible without the continued support of the Maryland State Arts Council

Matthew Mariano of Centreville is graduating from Queen Anne’s County High School and will be attending the University of Maryland College Park. He has given to the Small Works fundraising exhibition for multiple years. Matthew is a founding member and current secretary of QACHS’s inaugural chapter of the National Art Honors Society.

Emily Milko of Centreville is graduating from Queen Anne’s County High School and will be attending the University of Pittsburgh. Her entire family turned out to support her work in this year’s Small Works exhibition, where her pieces were very popular with donors. She is also a founding member of QACHS’s National Art Honors Society. She prides herself on charity work and community outreach.

Abigail Scaggs of Grasonville is graduating from Kent Island High School and will be attending the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. She’s been a dancer all her life is currently the captain of Parallel Performance Company, a local pre-professional dance company. Her chosen school is named under the top 30 dance schools in the country.

Skylar Podraza of Easton is graduating from Kent Island High School and will be attending the College of Charleston. An accomplished and involved dancer, she is also the president of her 2020 graduating class. In a previous year her sister was also granted a scholarship from the Arts Council, and her mother is a local art teacher. The Podraza family has long been leading the way for the arts in our county.

While the announcement of these scholarships usually comes at the Arts Council’s annual dinner, along with photos with and speeches from the students, this event is not happening this year due to COVID-19.
