ST MICHAELS, MD – As the new school year begins, so have after-school sessions of the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum’s free Rising Tide Program. Presented both virtually and in-person, this program is open to students in grades six–nine.

From 3:30–5:30pm on Tuesdays and Thursday, students are invited to CBMM’s Workshop Annex in St. Michaels, Md., for in-person classes, while virtual sessions are scheduled for 3:30pm on Wednesdays. Additional virtual classes will be held on Mondays beginning in November. Registration is required for all sessions.

Both versions of the program will offer fun, challenging projects that will build skills in design, woodworking, and project management. Virtual classes will offer different projects and subject material than in-person classes, so participants are welcome to sign up for either or both.

“Since 2015, Rising Tide has provided a welcoming, relaxed environment for students to learn hands-on skills through after-school and summer programming,” said Director of Education Jill Ferris. “Our instructors are working hard to present Rising Tide in whatever format works best for your student, and to provide the mentoring, support, and engagement that are so foundational to the program.”

To register your student, or for additional information, visit cbmm.org/risingtide or email risingtide@cbmm.org. New students are welcome to join whether they’ve previously participated in Rising Tide or not.

The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum officially reopened to the public at the end of June, with everyone on campus required to follow the Town of St. Michaels ordinance and wear facial coverings inside buildings at all times and outdoors when within six feet of other guests. Additional information on CBMM’s enhanced health and comfort measures and operational changes for reopening can be found at welcome.cbmm.org.
