Southern Delaware Therapeutic Riding Participating in “Do More 24 Delaware”

Sussex

As the world enters the second year of the pandemic, like many non-profit groups Southern Delaware Therapeutic Riding’s fundraising activities were seriously curtailed in 2020, leaving an impact that is still being felt throughout the organization. Alternative methods of support are more important than ever. Do More 24 Delaware is a huge one-day, statewide fundraising event that focuses attention on the support of nonprofits like SDTR.

The “24” in the name refers to the twenty-four-hour period between March 4, 2021 at 6:00 pm through March 5, 2021 at 6:00 pm. That is the day when donations can be made online at www.domore24delaware.org. Once on the site you can easily find and donate to Southern Delaware Therapeutic Riding by entering their name using the “Find Your Cause” button on the homepage. Your donation will be greatly appreciated.

SDTR has made an invaluable contribution to the local community since 1988. Their unique mission is to improve the physical and emotional wellbeing of children and adults with disabilities, providing a supportive environment for individuals and their families through the riding, care of and interaction with horses. Due to Covid 19 precautions, they have been unable to conduct in-person fundraising activities to offset the losses from not being allowed to offer riding lessons or hold their traditional events, such as the 2020 Barn Dance and accompanying silent auction. This makes events such as Do More 24 more critical than ever.

A major consideration for SDTR is delivering the best care possible for the horses used to provide therapy. A major project awaiting funding is the construction of new run-in sheds for the farm’s pastures. These are sheds constructed with an open side allowing grazing horses to freely go in and out to seek shade on sunny days or shelter from rain or snow. Run-in sheds provide an efficient, cost-effective means to improve the care of horses, some of SDTR’s most valuable assets.

By donating via the Do More 24 Delaware campaign, you will also help SDTR to qualify for matching funds, in effect increasing your donation and providing even more assistance in this time of need.
