Henry Highland Garnet and the Origins of Black Politics

On Friday, October 8, 2021 at 6 p.m. ET, The Starr Center for the Study of the American Experience at Washington College Director Adam Goodheart will speak with Professor Van E. Gosse about Kent County native and abolitionist Henry Highland Garnet and the origins of Black politics.

Gosse is the author of a new book titled The First Reconstruction: Black Politics in America from the Revolution to the Civil War. This is the first featured talk in a new lecture series by the Historical Society of Kent County (HSKC).
