Regional Juried Exhibition Returns to the Rehoboth Art League – Along with Three Other Shows This September

REHOBOTH BEACH, DE – The Rehoboth Art League is hosting an exciting line-up of new exhibitions, on display from August 26 – September 25, 2022. We invite the public to an opening reception for all four shows on Friday, August 26, from 5-7 pm.

RAL’s “Regional Juried Biennial Exhibition” returns for its 10th year with works from artists living in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington D.C. This exhibition, which will take over the Corkran and Tubbs galleries, represents a strong collection of 2-D and 3-D works by emerging and master-level fine artists. Artists will be judged by Kasmira Cade-Seymour, a visual artist, educator, independent curator, collaborator, and community activist, who will choose recipients for the categories of Best in Show, Juror’s Awards of Excellence, and Honorable Mentions.

Kasmira Cade-Seymour will give a free Gallery Talk on August 27th at 10 am in the Corkran Gallery to discuss her award-winning picks and other notable pieces from the 10th Regional Juried Biennial Exhibition.

The Ventures Gallery will host “Zoomorphism: Finding Natural Impressions in Humanized Materials,” works by Jason Lyons, 1st place winner of the 2020 Regional Juried Biennial Exhibition. Jason’s inspiration comes from looking at the correlation between the ‘tools’ and objects that have been created for human intention and how these items correspond to organic shapes found in the natural world. He looks for these shapes buried within objects, and then utilizes these shapes and reinterprets them into the anatomical structures that make up the organic sculptures he creates. In the end, he creates beauty from many common and in some cases mundane everyday objects.

The Homestead will display another juried exhibition, this one themed around the harvest moon. For “Member’s Juried Theme Show: Harvest Moon,” RAL invited its artist members to submit work interpreting their vision of this special astrological event in autumn. The harvest moon refers to a full, bright moon that occurs closest to the start of fall, historically providing ample moonlight in the early evenings for farmers harvesting summer crops. Whether glowing across an open field or shimmering above the ocean, the harvest moon puts on a dazzling display that never disappoints.

Finally, the DeWitt gallery will showcase specially selected works from the RAL Collections, many of which have never been displayed before. The Rehoboth Art League is one of a few active art collecting organizations in Delaware. The collection currently contains over 900 items and includes many historical works by prominent Delaware ‘Heritage’ artists, who were instrumental in the formation of the league, in 1938.

The exhibitions are free and open to everyone during the regular gallery hours of Monday through Saturday, 10am to 4pm and Sunday, noon to 4pm.
