Storytellers, A One-Night-Only Musical event at Church Hill theatre

Queen Anne's

Church Hill Theatre proudly presents Storytellers, a unique musical evening on Thursday, August 29, 2024. Three of Maryland’s finest performers, Daphne Eckman, PJ Abbott, and Carly Winter will share their songs and the stories about their creations. To get a preview of their talents, all three storytellers are on Facebook and Instagram.

Daphne Eckman (@daphneeckmanmusic) isn’t sorry about making you cry. In fact, she encourages it. The Annapolis, MD-based indie folk singer-songwriter creates an unapologetic space for catharsis: inspiring not just tears, but compelling you to laugh, sing, scream, and dance, too. Eckman devotes everything to emotion, drawing influences of Joni Mitchell, Phoebe Bridgers, Adrienne Lenker, and Radiohead through the filters of chamber pop, indie rock, 70’s soul, and pop-punk. Eckman has opened for Nancy Wilson of Heart, Bailen, Deb Talen of The Weepies, and Vanessa Carlton. Daphne released Improvement on July 16th. She demands the last word, refuses to move, and embraces getting loud. With soaring vocals, gritty guitars, and plucky banjo, this song beckons a new era, turning “sad-girl” into “mad-girl”. Eckman’s vulnerability compels the listener’s, leaving a mark healed only by hearing her again: once your tears dry. In September, Daphne is performing at the Annapolis Songwriters Festival.

PJ Abbott (@holidayvideostar) finds comfort in the humanity of grief, and Holiday Video Star is their musical exploration of its soft underbelly, called love. Most songs are written on a nylon string guitar near an open window and brought to life with the help of Jake Fine and the intention of sound experimentation. Their new album, Fossil Heart is out now. PJ will be performing at Shiny Fest at Ottobar on September 7 th , which is a music festival hosted annually by their record label Shiny Boy Press.

Carly Winter (@carlywintermusic) is a 16-year-old singer songwriter from Annapolis, Maryland. She uses her songs to tell stories, some true and some from the imagination. Singles ‘sandbar’, ‘laundry room’ and ‘home again’ are out now. In September, Carly is performing at the Annapolis Songwriters Festival.
