Working Artists Forum (WAF), a group of professional artists, is dedicated to promoting the arts on the Eastern Shore. As a non-profit organization, their mission is to cultivate and support an appreciation of art through its efforts in the community. These efforts include providing monetary support to art programs of area schools.
Each year WAF hosts Local Color, a juried exhibit and sale of paintings by artists of the Delmarva Peninsula. Local Color is held each year in July at the Crystal Ballroom of the Tidewater Inn during Plein Air Easton. A portion of the revenue from the sales of this exhibit is earmarked each year to provide local elementary schools gift cards for art supplies from the online art supply company, DickBlick.com.
This year, based on the sales from the 2018 Local Color Show and Sale, WAF was very pleased to present Dick Blick gift cards to 34 area elementary schools.
The elementary schools that were the recipients of the gift cards include schools in;
Caroline County: Denton, Federalsburg, Greensboro, Preston and Ridgely Elementary.
Dorchester County; Choptank, Maple, Sandy Hill, S. Dorchester, Vienna and Warwick Elementary.
Kent County; Galena, HH Garnett, Rock Hall and Worton Elementary.
Talbot County; Chapel District, Easton, St., Tilghman and White Marsh Elementary .
Queen Anne’s County; Bayside, Centreville, Church Hill, Grasonville, Kennard, Kent Island, Matapeake, and Sudlersville Elementary.
And, Worcester County; Buckingham, Ocean City, Pocomoke, Showell and Snow Hill Elementary.
Members of WAF personally presented each of these Dick Blick gift cards to the art department representatives or art teachers at the schools. It was very gratifying to WAF to provide these additional funds to promote the creativity of students in their art projects.
Workings Artists Forum hopes to continue this program, and invites the public to this year’s Local Color 2019 from July 19th through the 21st at the Tidewater Inn, which includes free demonstrations by award winning Plein Air Artists throughout the weekend.
