Preparations are underway for the 11th Annual Guest Artist Gala, to be held in the second floor George B. Todd Performance Hall at the Dorchester Center for the Arts on Saturday April 28, 2018 beginning at 7:00 p.m. This year’s theme is “Masquerade”. Guests can count on an entertaining evening of art and music, dining and dancing, plus live and silent auctions. Black tie and mask admired, not required! Admission is $65 per person for DCA members and $75 for non-members. Presented in partnership with 1880 Bank. Proceeds from the event benefit DCA educational programs and services.
The Guest Artist teams will soon be at work creating their unique pieces for the evening’s live auction. Several of the teams will share their experience during the evening. The premise of the guest artist event is that community leaders, who are not perceived as artists, are selected to be “Guest Artists” and then paired with local professionals in the arts. The medium used will vary from year to year, based on each professional artist’s area of expertise – from painting, mixed media, and ceramics to fiber art, fused glass and more. Working together, and coached by the professional, the community leader creates a work of art. The artists and guest artists are given several weeks to create the work, which is then auctioned off live at the gala.
Silent auction items will include generously donated items and services from local businesses, as well as original art, custom gift baskets, and more. Thank you to this year’s event participants – guest artists Rebecca Bailey, Jeremy Goldman, Nick Grande, Angela Mercier, Diana Mitchell, and Anne Phillips, as well as the talented artist coaches Robert Gladney, Windy Karpavage, Charles Ross, Tom Ryan, Heidi Wetzel, and Paul Winters.

Second Saturday Artists’ Reception
The new exhibit “The Still Life: Food and Wine in Paintings and Photographs” will be the focus of the Second Saturday Artists’ Reception on Saturday March 10, 5:00-7:30 p.m. Held in the gallery, the reception will include light refreshments and live music performed by Maris Wicker. Four artists are included in this exhibit: Ted Mueller and Chris Jewett with photography, Edward Brown with watercolor paintings and John Schisler with oil paintings. The show will be in the galleries through March 24. For a live arts experience, several artists will also be painting from the still life in the DCA front window during the month of March.
7th Annual Empty Bowls Supper
Join your friends and neighbors in the George B. Todd Performance Hall at DCA on Sunday March 18, 5:00-7:00 p.m., for the 7th Annual Empty Bowls supper to benefit Dorchester County food pantries. Empty Bowls is an international project to fight hunger. Each annual event is personalized by artists and organizations on a community level. Bowls are painted in advance, and provided at the dinner for the price of admission. Diners take home their bowls as a reminder that someone else’s bowl is empty. Admission is $12 per person, and includes choice of bowl and a meal of soup, bread, beverage and dessert. Tickets must be purchased in advance.
