Rock Hall FallFest – Celebration of Family, Community and Oysters

Festivals Kent, MD

While the annual Pirates and Wenches Weekend in Rock Hall brings in thousands of fans of the swashbuckling days of old, Rock Hall FallFest is a tribute to the heritage of the small town on the Chesapeake Bay. FallFest is a Celebration of Family, Community and Oysters and occurs on the second Saturday of October. This year it’s Saturday, October 13th, 2018 lasting from 10am to 4pm. Rain or Shine.

FallFest is a mix of music, crafters, kid activities and of course oysters. Fun for all members of the family.

Along with plenty of Oysters, organizers tell me that there will be over 20 bushels of oysters to be shucked and consumed, there will be all types of live music on two stages at each end of Main Street.

Music on Two Stages featuring:

The Recessionals– The Recessionals play traditional jazz, swing, second line, and dixieland in the style of the early settlers of jazz. Born on the streets of New York City, the group’s vast repertoire includes New Orleans standards, gospel, spirituals, and early New York City/Tin Pan Alley standards.

The High and Wides– The High & Wides draw on their backgrounds in bluegrass to take the music to a place of their own with inspiration from the days when old-time, rockabilly, western swing, and proto-rock’n’roll mingled in a murky soup of hillbilly string band music.

Catonsville High School Steel Drum Band- Perennial FallFest favorites, The Catonsville High School Steel Drum Band shares the music of Trinidad and Tobago with audiences throughout the Maryland region. Over 25 performances are presented annually in settings as diverse as jazz festivals, university conferences, community festivals, church and synagogue social events, and on the back of a flat-bed truck in the local Catonsville Fourth of July Parade.

Ken and Brad Kolodner Trio- The dynamic father-son duo Ken & Brad Kolodner weave together a captivating soundscape on hammered dulcimer, banjo and fiddles pushing the boundaries of the Old-Time tradition into uncharted territory.

Megg Farrell and Friends- Back by popular demand, singer-songwriter Megg Farrell is coming into her own as one of today’s most unique voices. With a style rooted in jazz and folk, Farrell conveys an inner strength that captivates at first listen. With Megg Farrell & Friends she is performing her original folk tunes as well as rowdy burning country tunes a la her heroes Emmylou Harris & Dolly Parton.
