Ocean City Development Corporation and Town of Ocean City Present Downtown Lighting Program

Beaches Worcester

Ocean City, MD – The Ocean City Development Corporation (OCDC), in coordination with the Town of Ocean City and the Ocean City Police Department, has created a voluntary program for installing new light fixtures in downtown Ocean City. The intent of the program is to provide lighting of alleys, streets, and side streets to improve crime prevention and also to improve public safety for pedestrians and bicyclists.

Since partnering with the town in 2018 when the Downtown Alley Lighting Program was created, the OCDC has expanded the Downtown Lighting program to include the full OCDC target area from the Inlet to 17th Street and to 15th Street along the Boardwalk. The program will reimburse property and business owners up to 50% of the cost of purchase and installation of light fixtures, up to a maximum of $500.

“Adding additional lighting is a very effective crime prevention measure,” commented Mayor Rick Meehan. “This program is great and we are excited to work again with the OCDC and downtown property owners.”

In order to qualify for reimbursement, the business or property must be in the OCDC target area, and the light fixture and placement must be LED for energy efficiency, and must comply with Downtown Lighting Program standards and Town of Ocean City standards. Participation is first come, first served until funds have been expended.
