Queen Anne's Theatre

Divine Intervention - Book Talk with Church Hill Theatre

Church Hill Theatre is excited to invite you to our first BOOK TALK with Janet Freedman, author of Divine Intervention – A Memoir. There will be two chances to attend via Zoom Saturday, June 26th at 7pm and Sunday, June 27th at 2pm. Each of the sessions will be live with the ability to ask question.

Janet Freedman tells the story of her coming of age in a conservative religious family in Baltimore in the early 1960’s. Wanting a different path than the “get a secretarial job, find a husband, have children” future expected of her, she went to art school and set out to explore the new freedoms the changing culture had to offer. Living in an apt in Downtown Baltimore she met new friends who nurtured her self-confidence and had a profound influence on her life. Two of those friends were a young John Waters and a man named Glenn Milstead – a man who would later become famous as Divine.

Janet’s book is a fascinating story of old Baltimore, the changing world of the ‘60’s, and a glimpse into the beginnings of two artists who dared to forge new paths in theatre and film. Her aim was not to tell the story of Divine, but to let people see the kind and generous person behind the makeup. Janet has enthusiastically agreed to participate in a book talk by Zoom to tell her stories, read some favorite selections, and answer questions.

The talk will be moderated by Church Hill Theatre board member Kathy Jones. For more information on Janet Freedman, her books and her art, visit studioprose.com
